PSIR 332 Simulations

In simulations, students take an active role in the learning process, which is perhaps one of the most powerful alternatives to traditional teaching methods in which a professor takes center stage. Simulations, in this way, transform the student into the class's leading actor, allowing the professor to achieve the ultimate goal at the end of the day. The EU decision-making simulations developed as part of the EUDIOC Jean Monnet Module and used in PSIR 332, a third-year course at Yeditepe University's Department of Political Science and International Relations between 2019 and 2022, provided students with the opportunity to experience and learn about the EU's decision-making processes, as well as insight into how the EU might respond to various crises.Because of the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, simulations for the Spring 2020 and 2021 semesters were run on online platforms.  It was held in person during the Spring term of 2022. 350 PSIR 332 students simulated the Ordinary Legislative Process simulations such as Pay Transparency and Green Deal, as well as European Council Summit simulations on issues such as the EU's relations with Turkey, the operation of the rule of law mechanism, and the Ukraine crisis over the course of the project's three years. Throughout the project's lifespan, 35 rounds of EU decision-making simulations were carried out in the PSIR 332 European Union classes at Yeditepe University's Department of Political Science and International Relations.
