Simulation Training Seminar for Academics

We are glad to invite you to the EUDIOC Jean Monnet Module Simulation Training Seminar which will be held on February 14, 2020, at Yeditepe University, İstanbul.
In the age of technology, the growing availability of information accelerates and changes the way students learn. In this respect, there has been a call for a shift from teacher-based to learner-based approach in higher education to ensure effective learning. The learner-centered approach suggests changing the traditional roles in a classroom by splitting the role of driving the learning process between the instructors and the students. Instead of being the sole focus of teaching, the instructor assumes the role of guiding and facilitating learning processes by encouraging students to become active participants in the class. In such settings, students take on increased responsibility in learning.
Simulations are one of the prominent learner-centered strategies that enable direct and meaningful participation of students in the learning activities. They are asynchronous physical learning tools that bring together knowledge and theory with a practical component on EU politics. The simulation participation enables students to reflect what they have learned in class in a real-world scenario and thus develop their academic, creative and critical skills.
This one-day training seminar is designed to contribute to development the academics’ skills in implementing simulations in classroom and to encourage the use of learner-centred approaches in teaching EU. The academics who are already applying or willing to apply simulation method in teaching and the students who the in simulations will come together in this seminar and a two-way knowledge transfer will be sustained.
